How to manage your time and time management strategies are something we all need to be focused on going into the new year! I have struggled with time management for a while now but have never really took the time to hammer down on it because I never actually took the time to see how important it was! When you manage your time right you figure out how to maximize your time outside of work or school, if you are in either of those, as well as how to get the things you need done without sacrificing ALL of your social life. The feeling of being needed by friends, family ad significant others is a major component in our happiness so why isolate yourself to work 24/7 if you will never truly be happy then? These strategies are going to be the ones that I have been testing and trying out for the past month and the ones that I will be using going into the new year so feel free to do the same! Not managing my time correctly and focusing on the wrong things have lead me to many setbacks in business and socially and I would not want the same thing to happen to you guys. Especially in college, like I am, where there is so much free time and potnetial for you to succeed if you focus on what matters. Try to go all in on managing your time and see the difference it can make in your life, don't just dabble in time management strategies. How Can I Make Better Use of My Time? A common question when it comes to time management and honesty the answer is different for every person based on your goals. Making better use of your time and mastering time management starts off by determining what the most important thing you want to do is. Do you want to have better time management strategies in order to get more done in your business? Do you want to be able to better manage your time at work? Do you want to be able to have more time to spend with your family? Are you just looking for more free time in general in order to pursue your hobbies? Determining the most important thing is the first step to better manage your time. After that you can start ranking the things you have to do that day in order of most important to least important in order to figure out which order you should be doing each task in. While it seems easier to "warm up" and do easier things earlier/ less important things earlier in the day in order to get the ball moving, this is not actually the case. Instead something I am working more and more on, and seeing good results so far, is doing the harder and more important activities first in order to make sure they get done. This makes sure tat you are getting closer to your goals each and everyday! The final way to start managing your time better is to determine when you have free time and what time is going to be available for you to do everything that needs to be done. Whether you have class in the morning or at night, or even work a 9-5, you have to figure out when and how much time you have in order to get what you need to done. No matter if it is chasing your business goals, starting anew business or even just managing your household chores to make sue you still have time for your kids! For those of you still in school, or not in school and working and/or chasing your passions I recommend having you free time in the morning if you are able to determine that. This makes sure you are getting what you need to get done in order to get closer to your business or life goals. The later you wait in the day to start, the more likely you are to push off the important things as more and more things come up throughout your day! Plus, when you get what you need to done earlier in the day it allows free time to enjoy the company of friends and family at night... also very important for your physical and mental health! How To Manage Your Time At HomeManaging your time at home is much like I explained above, are you looking to have more time with the family? Are you looking to have more tie for activities? Or are you looking for more time to start a business and then pursue your goals? Once you decide your goals for better time management, the one time management strategy that works best for me comes into play and it is one of the most simple things you can do! The only thing you are going to need is a pen and some paper or I like to use a small pocket notebook that is easy to carry around! Next, depending on your goals it could be different but essentially you write down what has to get done in order of difficulty and how important it is and then start taking action on this list. If you are looking to start a business with your free time, likely after a 9-5 or after school, that gives you the hours of 6 or 7pm-2am to work and still get enough sleep... more than enough time to work from home when done right. Start by writing down the 5 things you need to get done, within that period of time, that will push you closer to your goals and that aren't already habits or things you do everyday. Then, order these 5 thing from most important to least important and start taking action on the list you have created, making sure you do the most important things first when you have the most energy. The same strategy can be applied if you have household chores or tasks to get done, but you are probably going to have more than 5 things as some of the household tasks just have to get done. Execute the same way though, with the hardest and most important things first while you have the most energy... this has been a game changer for me! How To Manage Your Time At WorkIf you have a 9-5 job or even own your own business or just work from home, time management strategies are essential in order to reach and exceed your goals. The most effective strategy for managing you time at work is going to be writing down the 5 most important things and then doing those from hardest/ most important to least... this is known as the "Powerlist" and it is preached religiously by Andy Frisella! Other than the Powerlist, by Andy Frisella, another effective time management strategy is time blocking, and while I know that is not a new concept, it actually works. Sometimes the most powerful things are right in front of us and that is the case with time blocking that works well when you know exactly how much time in the day you are going to have to work, much like you do in a 9-5. The key is to test and figure out what length of time blocks work for you... I tried hour blocks but ended up just getting more distracted as I felt like I had so much time to get things done and ended up getting nothing done. I found that smaller time blocks of 15-30 minutes work best for me! Test out a few different time blocks and see what is working the best for YOU!
